Backstory

Hey guys. I’m back with a hot take on the latest books I’ve been reading. I don’t usually post back to back like this but I wanted to go ahead and get it out before my brain let go of the small details. Remember in my last post how I was on the hunt for part two of “The Arrangement” by Kiersten Modglin? Welp, I found it. DUN DUN DUN. I found part two and I have already finished it. Part two is called…wait for it… The Amendment (cue spooky music) I had to come talk to someone about it. Who better than you guys? Okie. Let’s get started. This one is a doozy.

Book Synopsis

First there was an arrangement. Now there is an amendment to the arrangement. Ainsley Greenburg is a fixer. So when her marriage hit a rocky patch, she did the only thing she knew how to do. She tried to fix it. She proposed an arrangement to her husband where they were both allowed to go on dates one day a week but they were not permitted to share the details of these dates with each other. it was awkward and unnatural, but they were both determined to make this marriage work. When things quickly spiraled out of control, Ainsley and Peter proved to each other that it was them against the world. In this second installment, Ainsley has found out about Peter's ugly secrets and has still remained loyal to him with the hopes of finally solving their marital problems by putting everything on the table. Complete honesty. As they struggle to move on from the damage they caused in the first book, new problems surface. They thought they had made it through the worst parts, but the worst is only just beginning.

My Thoughts

Okay now that is out of the way, we can truly get started. Don't say I didn't warn you. If you're being a rebel and reading this section when you haven't read The Arrangement, then any spoilers you scroll up on is completely your fault. Don't say I didn't warn you.

Okay so in the first book we discover that Peter is a sicko and Ainsley has an overwhelming desire to “fix” the broken parts of him. (Newsflash lovelies, you cannot fix a person. No matter how much you want to. No matter how much you love them. Send them to therapy and be on about your business!) Instead of turning him into the police for being a whole murderer and rapist, LIKE A NORMAL PERSON, she decides to try and manipulate him into loving her the way she wants. Book two begins a few months later with them on their way to a couple’s therapy session in order to talk about their problems. Although, I have the sinking feeling that therapy isn’t going to fix these issues. WHEW.

They meet the therapist, push through a super awkward session, and then get back in the car to go home. As soon as they get in the car, homeboy is literally salivating at the idea of killing the therapist. (Seriously, Ainsley, how are you not repulsed by this guy??) Ainsley tells him to chill so they can come up with a plan. Then we randomly rewind a few months earlier to the discussion they have after Peter realizes that Ainsley knew about his murder room the entire time. That’s right. This man has a whole murder room installed in the garage. I’m not going to get into the details of that discussion because it’ll take too long, but just know that it is ridiculous.

I am honestly having trouble trying to figure out which one of them gets on my nerves the most. Peter with his incessant lying (at this point, she literally knows the worst parts of you why are you STILL lying?!) or her compulsive need to control everything. They spend the majority of the book fighting with each other. Peter wants to keep his murder, murder, kill, kill to himself and she just wants to join in and make it a family affair. I couldn’t do anything but shake my head at these two. They ultimately wanted the same goal, but their refusal to just be open and honest with each other made it literally impossible to achieve.

Just when I thought Kiersten couldn't shock me any more with these two, she proved me wrong yet again. So many unexpected twists. Much murder, very drama. I found myself shaking my head at these two multiple times throughout the book. This 2nd installment wasn't as "punch you in the face" shocking as the first one, but maybe that's just because I was prepared for the foolery this go around. I knew there would be twists, even if I didn't know exactly what would happen. Those two need to divorce and get as far away from each other as possible. I definitely recommend this book, especially if you've read the first one. I am hoping Kiersten gives us a third installment just because of the way things ended in the 2nd. I tell you one thing, this made my exceedingly glad for my own husband and our completely murder free marriage. Prison orange definitely wouldn't look too hot on either one of us. When you’re done, please come back and tell me what you think. Until then:

Happy Reading Babes!
